For the 15th consecutive year, William O. Schaefer Elementary School staff and students showed their tremendous community spirit by preparing “Blizzard Boxes” (formerly called Covered Cupboards) for elderly Meals on Wheels recipients to ensure that they have extra food on hand in case hot meal deliveries are halted due to weather-related or other emergencies.

This year’s project was spearheaded by special education teachers Mrs. Elizabeth Barsanti, Mrs. Heidi Hill and Mrs. Caralyn Cosgrove. A total of 286 Blizzard Boxes filled with non-perishable food items were packed up and decorated by students!

Meals on Wheels spokesperson Ms. Sharon Martini visited WOS this week and expressed heartfelt thanks from “the grandmas and grandpas who benefit from [your] voluntary acts of kindness.”
