Tappan Zee High School senior and Rockland BOCES Career & Technical Education Center (CTEC) Culinary Arts student Matthew Karlon was a member of a four-person CTEC team that placed second in the 2017 New York State ProStart Hospitality Management Competition in March at Monroe College.

Matthew’s team presented a business plan for their farm-to-table restaurant concept, including a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) analysis, marketing plan, floor plan, and menu with food costing. Their plan not only earned second place, Matt and his teammates received scholarship offers from the Culinary Institute of America, SUNY Cobleskill, SUNY Sullivan and Monroe College.
