Extracurricular activities allow students to discover and explore interests, and connect with others who share their passions, outside of their typical school day. Although they may be called different things in different buildings–”enrichment” at William O. Schaefer Elementary School; “Learning Institutes” at Cottage Lane Elementary School; and “clubs,” “extracurriculars” and/or “co-curriculars” at South Orangetown Middle School and Tappan Zee High School–there are a wealth of opportunities for our students, offered at no cost to families, from kindergarten through Grade 12.
For Elementary Students
At WOS, 13 enrichment programs will be offered over four cycles this school year–up from just one program two years ago! CLE students also have a variety of exciting opportunities available to them: From Crazy 8’s Math (and more) to start the day or yoga, running club (and more) after school. Registration is open now until September 12 for both WOS and CLE. Click the links below for details and to register: WOS Enrichment | CLE Learning Institutes.
For Secondary Students
SOMS and TZHS students are free to choose the clubs they wish to attend, no advance registration required. Late buses are also provided for both buildings to encourage participation.
Club descriptions and late bus schedules are posted online on each building’s For Students page:
SOMS Clubs & Extracurriculars | SOMS Late Bus Schedule
TZHS Clubs & Co-Curriculars | TZHS Late Bus Schedule
Meeting information is included in both schools’ daily announcements and posted on the TZHS Google Calendar starting in October. Students unsure about which club is right for them are encouraged to attend meetings of a few different extracurriculars to find a good fit. Students at both SOMS and TZHS may also develop proposals to start new clubs.
Tappan Zee High School will host its annual Club Fair during lunch periods on Friday, September 28. It’s a great opportunity for students to talk with members of different organizations about getting involved!
