Last month, South Orangetown Middle School celebrated its school spirit while raising $1,600 for Hi Tor Animal Care Center! Throughout Spirit Week, the first National Junior Honor Society fundraiser of the year, students and staff were asked to donate $1 per day to dress in themed outfits: from Tropical Day to the always-popular Pajama Day.
Although Renee Kegley and Jill Rutherford’s homeroom was the top fundraiser, students opted to decline the prize–breakfast for the homeroom–so that the funds could be donated instead. Hi Tor was selected by NJHS members as its charity of the year because it was a favorite organization of Cottage Lane Elementary School teacher Paul Doctor, who passed away when current eighth-graders were in fifth grade.
NJHS officers and advisors Kristine Condon and Mrs. Rutherford thank SOMS students and staff for their generous Spirit Week support!
Save the date: The NJHS Annual Staff vs. Student Volleyball Game and Souper Bowl, both benefiting Hi Tor, will be held on Thursday, January 24 at 6PM. Stay tuned for more information!
