The Tappan Zee High School Interact Club welcomed 150 local senior citizens on Friday for the annual Valentine’s Day Dinner Dance. “This is my favorite event,” said Club Secretary Allison R. “It’s a great chance for seniors to have fun and be social.”
The TZHS Quartet Club performed throughout the evening under the direction of Orchestra Director Jonathan Rossi. And thanks to the generosity of local businesses, guests enjoyed a delicious meal and door prizes.
Interact, advised by TZHS Literacy Specialist Jillian Richards, is a community service club that hosts a few major events each year, most for local seniors. Members say that the club’s relaxed culture sets it apart from other service organizations that require a greater time commitment. In fact, most meetings are just 10 minutes long.
Club Vice President Sara D. joined as a sophomore. “I have a busy schedule and this was more flexible, so I can still be involved.”
“You don’t need a lot of time,” explained Club Treasurer Rachel Z. “You can show that you care by spending just a few hours a month.”
And although a majority of current members are girls, all are welcome. “Volunteering is for everyone,” noted Club President Rebecca Z.
