At its August 1 meeting, the Board of Education appointed Melissa Luciano as Assistant Principal for Tappan Zee High School, effective September 3, 2019.
Luciano joins South Orangetown Central School District from Suffern High School, where she has served as the World Language Department Chairperson since 2011 and a Spanish Teacher since 2007. As the Department Chairperson, Luciano supervised 12 staff members providing instruction in American Sign Language, Chinese, French, Italian and Spanish; established the school’s New York State Seal of Biliteracy initiative; created an annual program to celebrate student diversity; planned, designed and executed professional development for staff; and, was the lead faculty member on the Yale Emotional Intelligence Committee and played a key role in staff training to support the development of an Emotionally Intelligent school. Luciano coached sports throughout her 12-year tenure at the high school and was its varsity softball coach for the past six years.
Luciano earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Adolescent Education with a Spanish concentration from SUNY Plattsburgh and a Master of Arts degree in Educational Leadership, Management and Policy from Seton Hall University. She holds New York State professional certifications for both School Building Leader and Spanish 7-12.

I am confident that she will continue to do the same here.”
