SOCSD families for whom English is a new language (ENL) were welcomed to the district by Family Engagement Center Coordinator AJ Walker and School Social Workers Jessenia Cursio and Jessica Inglis at an informational workshop on September 16. The session was designed to help families of students in grades K-12 access district programs and services, including enrichment, athletics and PowerSchool. Walker reports that 40 people attended the event, which is the first of its kind to be offered in the district. Parents were invited to provide feedback on topics of interest to guide planning for upcoming FEC events and workshops.
“Building strong relationships with our families is a core value of the FEC,” said Executive Director for Pupil Personnel Services Dr. Karen Tesik. “Making sure each family can access our district programs, website and be able to monitor their child’s academic progress is essential to increasing family engagement.”
