Dear South Orangetown Families,
I’m writing to update you on changes to our school district calendar.
Due to a change in New York State Election Law earlier this year, school district employees who are registered to vote may now request up to three hours to vote in any public election without experiencing a loss in pay. In order to comply with this legislation without disrupting an instructional day, November 5 (Election Day) will be a full-day Superintendent’s Conference Day. As a result, there will be no school for students on November 5 and the daytime Secondary Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on the afternoon of December 13. Please note: The district will not need to create an additional student attendance day or lose a snow day to make up for the November 5 full-day Superintendent’s Conference Day.
In addition, as a condition of the new contract recently ratified by our teachers union, the following days are now half-days for elementary school students: June 23, June 24 and June 25, 2020.
We know that our families rely on the calendar for planning purposes and apologize for any inconvenience these changes create. It is our desire to inform you in as timely a manner as possible, so that childcare arrangements may be made, if needed.
Sincerely,
Robert R. Pritchard, Ed.D.
Superintendent
