Congratulations to Tappan Zee High School’s newest Orangetown Youth Court graduates:
Brian Acosta, Dylan Berry, Laura Hipgraves, Kyle Lupi, April Matute and Zachary Sullivan!
Youth Court student volunteers complete an educational program which provides an overview of the criminal justice system, from arrest to the appeal process. Students with an interest in law and law enforcement train to serve for a two-year commitment as judges, prosecutors, defenders, clerks and bailiffs in actual Youth Court proceedings. Youth Court is an alternative to the traditional juvenile justice systems for offenses such as shoplifting, criminal mischief and vandalism. The rehabilitative program is designed to reduce criminal behavior and provide youth offenders with positive peer role models.
