South Orangetown Central School District

Dear South Orangetown Families,

As you know, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced today that New York State schools will remain closed through at least May 15 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

While this decision is not unexpected given the continuing public health crisis, it further prolongs the disruption of daily life for our students, staff, families and community.

We know that our students miss their friends and may be disappointed about canceled events and field trips they have been eagerly anticipating. All field trips are now canceled.

Some may be worried about “moving up” to a new school they haven’t yet visited or how their college and career plans may be impacted.

As part of our contingency planning over the past few weeks, our Administrative Team has begun developing creative solutions to celebrate our students’ achievements and prepare them for what’s next. Details will be shared in the coming days.

To help you support your children through this challenging time, our school psychologists, social workers and prevention counselors have collaborated on this resource and encourage families to reach out for support.

And although our school buildings are closed, education continues in SOCSD via our distance learning program. Food service and supports for students and families remain in place and may be accessed by reaching out to the District Hotline at socsdcares@socsd.org or (845) 680-1090.

Be well.

Sincerely,

Robert R. Pritchard, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
