South Orangetown Central School District

Updated info,Ā  which appears below, was sent to families and staff via SchoolMessenger on February 9, 2021.

Following is updated information regarding weather-related remote days and snow days. This information will also be linked on the 2020-21 Updates page linked under Quick Links at www.socsd.org.

Weather-Related Remote Days

The District may implement a weather-related remote day in the event of forecasted inclement weather which would make travel for in-person learning and instruction hazardous.

On weather-related remote days:

  • Families and staff are notified by e-mail and robocall.
  • All buildings and District offices are closed and will operate on a fully remote basis.
  • Classes will run virtually as scheduled.
  • Athletics activities and events are canceled.
  • For safety reasons, transportation is not provided for out-of-district and non-public schools.
  • Calendar snow days are not used.

Snow Days

In the event of a school closure due to local conditions, such as forecasted extreme weather and/or widespread power outages which would prevent students and staff from working remotely, the District will follow the standard snow day procedures outlined in the Parent Guide to School Safety, which was mailed to residents in late October.

On snow days:

  • Families and staff are notified by e-mail and robocall.
  • All buildings and District offices are closed. There will be no remote learning for students and no remote work for staff.
  • All events and activities, including Athletics, are canceled.
  • For safety reasons, transportation is not provided for out-of-district and non-public schools.
  • Calendar snow days are used.

To date, SOCSD has used two (2) snow days this school year. Schools will now be in session on Tuesday, April 6 and Thursday, May 27.
