Cottage Lane Elementary School fifth-graders wrote a form of “found poetry” after learning about the life and work of Martin Luther King, Jr. in their WERLD classes last week. Students listened to King’s “I Have a Dream Speech,” read picture books and viewed History Channel and Kid President videos about America’s civil rights movement. Students also drew beautiful portraits of King and created balloons containing their dreams for the new year. By studying King, WERLD teacher Kristine Wagner hopes students realize that no one can do everything but that everyone can do something to make the world a better place.
