The District received reports of two COVID-19 cases this afternoon. One of these cases was at William O. Schaefer Elementary School and the other is at South Orangetown Middle School. The exposure dates for both cases were Wednesday, February 3 through Friday, February 5. Due to the staffing impact of mandatory quarantines, both WOS and SOMS will transition to remote learning for the remainder of this week.
Contact tracing is underway and should be completed by tomorrow evening. Those identified as contacts of the individuals who tested positive will be contacted by the District and may also receive a call from a Contact Tracer from the Department of Health.
- For such calls, your caller ID may read “NYS Contact Tracing” or display a phone number with a 518 area code.
- Please promptly answer these calls.
- Your identity and the information you share will remain confidential.
- Please provide Contact Tracers with the information they need to protect our entire School District community.
In addition, due to the forecast for inclement weather, Cottage Lane Elementary School, Tappan Zee High School and District offices will be operating remotely tomorrow and will reopen for in-person attendance on Wednesday, February 10. Tomorrow’s sports activities and SOCSD Food Pantry donation drop-off are canceled. Donations will be accepted at the Food Pantry between 1-4PM on Thursday, February 11 or between 4-7PM on Tuesday, February 23.
