South Orangetown Central School District

Family Engagement Center Coordinator AJ Walker met with South Orangetown Middle School Character Education and Leadership classes last Friday to educate students about the SOCSD Food Pantry. “It’s important that our students understand what a food pantry is, how it works and why families may need to rely on this type of support,” she explained. “Our food pantry not only serves local families who are food insecure, it also provides an opportunity for our community to come together to support our neighbors through donations and volunteering.”

Walker also explained how to register for assistance and how to get involved. In fact, seven classes signed on for a food drive challenge to help stock the Food Pantry so that families can receive a two-week supply to last through Spring Recess.

Want to help? The Food Pantry will be hosting an additional donation drop-off date this Saturday, 9AM-12PM, at the former Tappan Zee Elementary School, to collect food for families. For suggested donation items and a link to the Amazon Wish List, go to the Food Pantry webpage.
