Tappan Zee High School Music Department Team Leader and band teacher Bill Hughes recently collaborated with his students to produce a virtual performance of Leonard Bernstein’s “West Side Story.” “As we neared the one anniversary of our school district closure due to COVID-19, I realized the Tappan Zee High School Band had not been able to perform an in-person concert in over a year. So we took on the project of putting together a virtual performance of one of the pieces we have been working on. While it is not the same as a live concert, it reflects of the good work that our students have continued to do under difficult circumstances,” Hughes noted. “It’s what I hope will be our first and final virtual performance. That said, we didn’t spruce it up. This performance is a reflection of how we have spent the last year doing our best to keep playing music.”
