Tappan Zee High School’s Varsity Baseball and Softball teams each bested their rivals to win the Section 1 Class A2 Championships last Saturday. TZ Baseball beat Byram Hills 2-1 in a “pitcher’s duel.” 2021 League Pitcher of the Year Kyle Roper allowed just three hits in the victory. After a three-game winning streak, TZ Softball won the Section 1 A2 Championship by defeating Pearl River 4-3 with standout performances by 2021 League Player of the Year Eden Blanker and All Section athlete Michelle Trozzo. Director of Physical Education, Health and Athletics Bill Pilla also commended the TZ Varsity Boys and Girls Lacrosse athletes and coaches on winning their league championships this spring. “Our Girls and Boys Lacrosse teams continue to level up and winning the league championships shows the upwards trajectory of both programs!” he noted. “Our girls were Section 1 runners-up and our boys made it to the quarterfinals in Sectional play. Our future is very bright in the sport of lacrosse!”
Reflecting on the 2020-21 school year, he said. “Our spring season was a great ending to a challenging year for all of us. The success of our spring teams made Tappan Zee High School a fun place to be for everyone as we competed in some great contests! I want to thank our coaches, staff, parents and fans for their support and encouragement. I want to especially thank our student athletes for their hard work and dedication to make the last couple of months memorable and special. We are proud of you!”
