Dear South Orangetown Families,
This morning, New York State Education Commissioner Betty A. Rosa notified school districts statewide that, in the absence of direction and assistance from the Governor’s Office and the New York State Department of Health, the New York State Education Department (NYSED) is developing back-to-school guidance for schools based on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines and guidance from the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Commissioner Rosa noted that the NYSED guidance will address key topics including masking, social distancing, remote learning, transportation and community transmission tracking to help school districts prepare for opening school this fall.
Our first day of school, September 9, is still just over four weeks away and we are hopeful that the release of clear guidance will enable us to finalize planning and communicate details to families and staff in a timely manner. Stay tuned.
Sincerely,
Robert R. Pritchard, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
