Congratulations to Tappan Zee High School’s 2021 New York State School Music Association All-State musician Henry Huang (Violin) and alternates Christine Chang (Flute), Diana Kim (Oboe) and Noah Morley (Mallet Percussion)!
Huang, a senior, was selected to participate with the Symphony Orchestra in the 2021 All-State Music Festival, which will be held in Rochester’s storied Eastman Theater, December 2-5. Chang (senior), Kim (senior) and Morley (junior) will have the opportunity to perform with the Symphonic Band should an opening for their respective instruments become available.
Auditions for All-State ensembles are highly competitive and were conducted via video performance last year. Of the thousands of students who audition statewide each year, just 350 are selected to perform at the All-State Festival. Selections for this year’s All-State were based on NYSSMA solo ratings from Spring 2020. All four students performed Level VI works (the highest level of difficulty) and were ranked at the top of their instrumental category.
Once again, congratulations to Henry, Christine, Diana and Noah and to all of our South Orangetown Central School District music teachers who encouraged and inspired them through the years!
