Tappan Zee High School is among five Section 1 schools to earn the 2020-21 Scholar Athlete Team School Distinction Award for academic excellence!
Each season, the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA), honors student-athletes, teams and schools for academic excellence. To receive Scholar-Athlete team recognition, 75% of each team’s roster must have a GPA of 90 or higher. Every TZHS varsity team qualified during the 2020-21 school year, earning Tappan Zee High School the title as a School of Distinction.
“Our student-athletes are students first and earning this recognition is a direct reflection of the philosophy of our athletics program,” said Athletics Director Bill Pilla. “Athletics is an extension of the classroom. We teach skills such as time management, commitment, communication and teamwork, that are the foundation for success on and off the field.”
On December 1, the Athletics Department will be co-hosting an NCAA Eligibility and Recruiting Seminar for high school athletes in collaboration with the TZHS Counseling Department. The event will help provide student-athletes who aspire to play at the Division I or Division II level with information about the recruiting and eligibility process. Additional information will be shared later this fall.
