SOCSD K-5 families had a ton of interactive and hands-on science fun at the annual K-5 Family Fun Science Night hosted at William O. Schaefer Elementary! Teachers from William O. Schaefer and Cottage Lane Elementary led a variety of STEM activities that provided opportunities to observe, hypothesize, engineer and problem-solve. Located at different stations, the activities — ranging from catapult construction to alka-seltzer rockets — incorporated engineering, design, observation, inference and communication skills-practice.

“This event shows parents and students that everyday household items can be turned into science exploration,” said K-8 Instructional Science Coach Samantha Levine. “Families have the opportunity to come together to participate in these activities that demonstrate simple experiments that target students’ skills.”

Make sure to save the date for another night of family fun — K-5 Family Technology Night is scheduled for November 17 at Cottage Lane Elementary!
