Leading up to the federal holiday in his honor, William O. Schaefer Elementary School students have been learning about civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. through read-alouds, hands-on activities and interactive lessons.
Below, Liane Kolesar’s kindergarten class reads Monica Clark-Robinson’s book, “Let the Children March,” about the Birmingham Children’s Crusade and Alison Costello’s students explore highlights of King’s “I Have a Dream” speech in Washington, D.C. and share their own dreams for peace during a library lesson with Celine Zatarga.
As a reminder, schools are closed on Monday, January 17 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
