February 2 marks World Read Aloud Day and K-5 students at William O. Schaefer and Cottage Lane Elementary School have spent the day enjoying read-alouds from authors of some of their favorite books!

Virtually visiting both WOS and CLE, over twenty authors including David A. Kelly, Sarah Aronson, Lynne Plourde, and Melanie Ellsworth, paid a virtual visit to classrooms – sharing stories and challenging student participants to grab a book of their own, find an audience and read aloud.

“For 13 years, this day has called attention to the importance of sharing stories – bringing people together through a shared connection of reading aloud in all of our communities,” explained K-5 Instructional Coach Kristy Nadler. “We are truly so excited that so many authors could join us virtually to celebrate this day with our K-5 students.”

Participation in World Read Aloud Day supports the overarching student goal of academic readiness – prioritizing independent reading time throughout the school day and encouraging classes and groups to join together and read.
