Crowd of SOCSD staff in auditorium as superintendent presents on Opening Day 2024

Who’s ready to elevate, engage and inspire?

SOCSD kicked off the 2024-25 school year at its annual staff Opening Day ceremony this morning at Tappan Zee High School! New staff members were introduced and those returning greeted colleagues, all eager to prepare for students’ arrival on September 3.

In his remarks, Superintendent of Schools Brian Culot, Ed.D. highlighted the extensive capital construction that was done this summer and shared strengths and areas for growth which were identified through the recent School Community Survey.

Board of Education President Steven Finn expressed the Board’s strong support and encouraged all staff to “embrace new challenges and celebrate every achievement, big and small.”

Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources Joseph Lloyd, PhD introduced new hires and SOASA President and Director of Physical Education, Health and Athletics Bill Pilla encouraged all staff to reach out to their administrators for support throughout the year.

TZHS Music Team Leader Bill Hughes–in his 23rd year of delivering an Opening Day speech as EASO President–noted that, for those who work in public schools, “the return is priceless.”

Welcome back!
