South Orangetown Central School District

To kick off Youth Art Month, original artwork created by Cottage Lane Elementary School and South Orangetown Middle School students will be displayed at the Tappan Free Library!

The exhibit will feature artwork from students in grades 3-5 taught by CLE Art teacher Tiffany DiVenere and students in grades 6-8 and Studio Art, which are taught by SOMS Art teachers Allison Meyers and Tatiana DiPierno. Student work that will be featured will include pieces from a variety of projects including mandalas, Tim Burton-inspired self-portraits, one point perspective drawing, scratch board drawings and zentangle designs.

“As we’re in the second half of the school year and especially during Youth Art Month, it’s the perfect time to stop and admire some of the work that our students have created. We get lost in the details of each day and forget to step back and look at the incredible artwork that’s being made in our classrooms,” said Meyers. “Art is about not only creating the art, but having the viewer interaction that comes with showcasing your work. We are so looking forward to having family, friends and community members check out the art exhibit.”

The art exhibit at the Tappan Free Library will be displayed starting this weekend and will remain in the library until the end of March. Later this month, the Tappan Zee High School Chapter of the National Art Honor Society will install a K-12 art show to be displayed in all four schools in recognition of Youth Art Month!
