Cottage Lane Character Education
In Our Classroom       Family Involvement

Across Our School:

  • Monthly Character Education Assemblies

    • Student and word of the month certificates

    • Schoolwide Read Alouds shared at our monthly assemblies. This month we shared The Three Questions, a story about a boy who visits a turtle in an attempt to answer three questions, When is the best time to do things? Who is the most important one? What is the right thing to do?

    • PTA sponsored assemblies supporting character education (Yo-Jo- Anti-Bullying, Virtually Me, The NED Show, A Seat for Rosa, etc.)

  • Student Planner

    • All students are recording homework and long term assignments in their student planner.

  • Student Advisory Council (S.A.C.)

    • Elected students represent their class and participate in leadership training as well as organizing community service projects such as the Food Drive we had this fall. These students serve as role models for the other students in our school community and help shape school climate.

  • Socialization in our Schools: (S.O.S)

    • Students are selected and trained to serve as peer mentors for a small group of students who require and are receiving social skills training. At lunch and recess they mentor these students so they can generalize the skills recently learned and achieve greater social success.
