Curriculum Council
Goals of Curriculum Council
The
Curriculum Council is a standing advisory committee to the
Superintendent that has as its primary goal the ongoing improvement
of the district’s educational program. Through its review of
proposed program changes and proposed committee charges, the Council
seeks to:

provide students with rigorous educational programs
-
support the district's mission, goals and priorities, and
-
meet and exceed New York State standards
Overview of Areas of
Responsibility
Review proposed district-wide program committee charges:
-
The Council will
review the scope and charge of district-wide program committees
proposed by the administration and will provide feedback to the
Superintendent.
-
The Superintendent
will consider the Council’s feedback as advisory.
-
The Council will be
kept informed of the committee’s progress.
Review of proposed new programs
-
The Council will receive proposals for new programs
through the building principal.
-
The Council will meet with the principal and the
proposal’s developers.
-
The Council will review proposals according to
criteria established by the Superintendent.
-
Based on its assessment, the Council will recommend
approval, revision or rejection of the proposal.
-
The Superintendent will consider the Council’s
recommendations as advisory.
-
The Council will be kept informed of progress of
the implementation of approved program changes.
Professional
Development of the Committee
Council members will be given opportunities to
develop an understanding of educational program issues such as:
Operating Guidelines
Meeting Schedule: The Council will establish a
schedule of meetings.
Agendas: Agendas and supporting
documentation will be mailed in advance of each meeting.
Posting of Meetings: All Council
meetings shall be open to the public. Agendas shall be posted
in each school in advance of each meeting and distributed to PTA
Presidents. Members of the public shall be allowed to
participate in the Council’s deliberations according to guidelines
established by the Council.
Public Information: Minutes of Council
meetings will be available at the Office of the Assistant
Superintendent.
Decision making protocol: In its reports
to the Superintendent, the Council will identify the reasons
supporting its recommendations. The Council will endeavor to
reach consensus. However, when consensus cannot be reached,
the report will include both the reasons for and against the
recommendations.
