From the Rockland County Department of Health: Mosquito and Tick Prevention
Mosquitoes and ticks are more than just nuisance pests; they can sometimes spread disease. Experts are expecting a significant increase in Lyme disease this season. Following are informational resources for local residents regarding mosquito and tick prevention: Mosquito Control Program | Lyme Disease Prevention & Education Program

SOCSD uses Integrated Pest Management to control pests on school property. This includes regular inspection of roof drains to ensure that they are working properly, walking the grounds on almost a daily basis to clean litter and remove containers that could hold standing water. The grounds are also mowed and trimmed weekly and leaves are removed to eliminate favorable habitat for ticks. State law prohibits the use of insecticides or pesticides on school property.
