Professional Development Plan
The Professional Development Plan is intended to improve the
quality of teaching and learning by ensuring that teachers participate in
substantial professional development in order to remain current with their
profession and meet the learning needs of their students.
-
PDPs must include a needs analysis, goals, objectives,
strategies, activities and evaluation standards for professional development
of the school district or BOCES and a description of how the school district
or BOCES will provided all teachers substantial professional
development activities directly related to student learning needs identified
in school report cards and other sources.
-
PDPs must be aligned with the New State
learning standards
and assessments, including linguistic, cultural diversity and special needs
and teacher capacities, and indicate the number of hours each teacher is
expected to participate in professional development in the school years
covered by the plan. Activities must be articulated across grade levels
and subject areas and show how they will be provided and measured in a
continuous manner.
-
For PDPs covering the time period after February 2, 2004, the
plan must also describe how it will provide teachers holding a professional
certificate with opportunities to maintain such certificate in good standing
based upon successfully completing 175 hours of professional development every
five years.
