Computer Mathematics Courses
The Mathematics and Computer Science Department at Tappan Zee High School follows the recommendations set forth by the New York State Education Department and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics by offering courses in Mathematics and Computers for all students.
Regents examinations are the final examinations in each of the
following courses:
Integrated
Algebra, Integrated Geometry, Integrated Algebra II/Trigonometry.
Computer Mathematics and Visual Basic 6.0 (10,11,12) Fall Semester, ½ credit
Prerequisite: Course AB.
Significant language features, programming practices and application
programs will be discussed. Topics covered: developing programs,
working with controls, data input controls, menus, dialog boxes,
variables, operators, debugging, loops and timers. Students may
elect to earn 3 college credits at reduced tuition rates from STAC.
Introduction to Programming with Java (10,11,12) Spring Semester, ½ credit
Prerequisite: Computer Mathematics and
Visual Basic 6.0.
This course expands the programming practices explored in Visual
Basic 6.0. Students will write programs using the Java 2
programming language and compile with JCreator. Topics covered:
variables, conditional control structures, loops, strings, methods,
classes, arrays and files. Students may elect to earn 3 college
credits at reduced tuition rates from STAC.
Advance Placement Computer Science with Java Full year, 1 credit
Prerequisite: Introduction to Programming with Java, Integrated Algebra II and Trigonometry Honors.
This course continues with key Java programming concepts including loop structures, strings, methods, classes, inheritance, constructors, encapsulation, polymorphism and instantiation. All students enrolled are expected to take the AP Computer Science AB examination in May.
