Friday, December 19 Covered Cupboard boxes for Meals on Wheels due in today

Last Day before December Recess

Covered Cupboards” for the Meals on Wheels Program

The theme for December in the WOS Character Education Program is “Generosity; Sharing With Others”. For the thirteenth year, WOS and any other interested families, are given the opportunity to share food with the home bound and elderly residents of South Orangetown by making “Covered Cupboards” for the Meals on Wheels Program.

Cupboards are simply made by filling shoe boxes with nutritious foods. These cupboards are delivered to seniors for use when inclement weather prohibits delivery of a hot meal. The Executive Director of Meals on Wheels, Jim Burton, will pick up the Cupboards at WOS on Friday, December 19 and thank the students for giving so generously to the seniors in our community during this winter season.

Please refer to the attachment to find out all the details, including the suggested food list. Questions can be forwarded to mchaudoir@socsd.org.

Thank you for your generosity and participating in this meaningful community service project.

We are attaching the revised PICK UP Form for the times you need to pick up your student at the end of the day. It is convenient and helpful when we receive the PICK UP form on the morning of the day you are picking up to avoid any confusion for the teacher and especially for your child.

Please remember:
Early pick up is up to 2:15 p.m.

Regular dismissal is at 2:40 p.m.

Students will not be released between the 2:15 and 2:40 time frame. We thank you for your cooperation for this important safety rule.

Safety Reminders

  • When dropping off students in the morning please be sure to use the sidewalks and not walk in between the buses. The bus drivers have expressed concerns about walkers putting themselves in harms way.

  • When picking up students at the end of the day, please park on Lester Drive and keep the circle clear of moving cars as the buses approach the school for dismissal. Also please use the walkway when entering and exiting the building with your children.

Thank you for following these important safety reminders

Reminders from Nurse Shalvey:

  • Please be sure to call the nurse’s office at 680-1310 when your child will be absent.

  • If you have not completed an updated Emergency Card for your child, please do so and return to the nurse’s office as soon as possible.

  • As the cold weather approaches, please make sure your child is dressed appropriately to enjoy outdoor recess.
