Our Transportation Office has been working very hard to ensure a smooth start to the new school year.
We are asking for your support to help all of our students get to and from school safely and in a timely manner all year.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that school buses are the safest way for students to travel to and from school. In fact, NHTSA says that students are 70x more likely to get to school safely when taking a school bus instead of traveling by car.
Last year, more than 200 elementary and middle school students were driven to and from our schools every day. Pickups, in particular, increase the number of students in busy parking lots (and roads) and delay our dismissal process, which prevents our buses from leaving on time.
Give the Bus a Chance!
For the month of September, we’re asking all K-8 families to use bus transportation to and from school daily. Here are three reasons why:
- It’s the safest mode of transportation for students
- Our community bus routes have been designed to reduce students’ one-way bus time
- Sharply reducing drop-offs and pickups will enable our buses to operate on time so that students get to and from school sooner
Our hope is that by October 1, families will decide to use bus transportation all year!
There is always a period of adjustment at the start of a new school year. For our youngest students, it may take a few weeks to get into the routine of getting on and off our buses in a timely manner. Our drivers are also learning new faces and taking time to reinforce bus rules.
Please allow up to 10 minutes after your scheduled time for your child’s bus to arrive. As always, please report all transportation concerns to the Transportation Office. We have additional staff ready to assist with resolving back-to-school transportation issues.
Thank you and please: Give the Bus a Chance!
