The South Orangetown Central School District is hosting a New York Blood Center community blood drive on Thursday, November 1, in support of all local first responders. The drive will be held in the Tappan Zee High School Gym, 8:30am-8:30pm, and all students, staff and community members ages 16 and older are welcome. Walk-ins are welcome, but donors may also sign-up online at www.nybloodcenter.org. All student donors require parental permission; forms may be picked up from the sign-up table during lunch period today or downloaded from nybloodcenter.org/donate-blood/become-donor/can-i-donate-blood/.
A ceremony to honor of the 105th Airlift Wing and 106th Rescue Wing units of the New York Air National Guard and the New York Army National Guard for their response to aid victims of Hurricanes Sandy, Maria, Florence and Michael will be held in the TZHS Gym at 6:30pm. Speakers will include Senator David Carlucci, Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee, Rockland County Executive Ed Day, Orangetown Supervisor Chris Day and SOCSD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Robert Pritchard. The event is free and open to the public.
