Tappan Zee High School’s Dante Alighieri chapter of the Società Onoraria Italica, the national Italian Honor Society, inducted 33 first-year members during a candle-lighting ceremony attended by more than 300 family members and friends on November 13. New inductees recited the oath, promising to continue the study of Italian and to promote friendship and harmony among all people. Forty-three second-year members and 34 third-year members were re-inducted at the event.

To be eligible for induction, students must earn a 90 average in the study of Italian and at least an 80 overall average in other academic areas. Inductees must maintain these averages and perform 12 hours of community service per school year to maintain membership and be re-inducted. A reception to celebrate the inductees and re-inductees was held immediately after the ceremony.
