South Orangetown Central School District

Dear SOCSD Families;

I would like to personally invite you to attend our upcoming workshops on safety, security, and well-being of our students and staff. Preparing for the possibility of an emergency requires continual planning, practice, review and refinement by our administrative team and local law enforcement.

Families also play an important role in prevention, preparedness and response—and we need your support. In the coming days, South Orangetown residents will receive a mailing containing a school emergencies quick reference sheet with key information about our emergency response and communications procedures. Also listed are local resources and actions parents and guardians can take to help our school district respond quickly, safely and appropriately in the event of an emergency.

To further strengthen our home-school partnership on safety, our Family Engagement Center will host a three-part workshop series for parents and guardians with students in grades K-12, starting Monday, December 17. Director of Special Education and Pupil Personnel Services Dr. Karen Tesik and Executive Director of Finance and Management Services Ms. Alicia Koster will facilitate discussions about safety and preparedness. Following are workshop topics and dates:

Building a Family Emergency Plan & District Emergency Preparedness Protocols
Monday, December 17, 7:00-8:30PM

Emergency Communications
Monday, January 14, 7:00-8:30PM

We must all work together to ensure the safety, security, and well-being of our students, staff, and our families. Being informed and prepared is critically important and I look forward to seeing you on December 17.
