A group of Tappan Zee High School computer science students visited Google’s Chelsea headquarters on Friday to learn about career opportunities in the tech industry. Students representing TZHS’ Explorations of Advanced Programming, AP Computer Science A, AP Computer Science Principles and Intro to Java Programming classes met with Software Engineer Kristen Marventano, Tech Infrastructure Engineer Amaya Booker, Software Engineers Erty Seidhol and Nina-Marie Amadeo, Cloud Customer Engineer Lorin Price and Application Engineer Sofeeya Atar, who shared their experiences through a panel discussion.
“The panel members spoke about their journey to acquire a job at Google and inspired our students to seek opportunities, work hard and choose a job that sparks their passion,” says TZHS Computer Science/Makerspace teacher Karen Connell. “They noted that what sets Google apart from other jobs is the people, the quality of Google products and the opportunity to participate in complex projects that impact the world. They spoke about finding and connecting with mentors and encouraged students to step outside their comfort zone, experience failure, take small steps toward goals and be disciplined.”
