Throughout the spring, the #SOCSDMentorMonday Facebook campaign has highlighted community members who directly mentor students on a sustained, voluntary basis through our schools. Through their dedicated volunteerism, mentors offer students meaningful opportunities to explore interests and career pathways–and to develop real world job skills. Even though we said last week was the last Mentor Monday, there was one more person we needed to recognize!
When she isn’t busy keeping our community informed about the all of the great events going on in our schools, District Webmaster and Communications Coordinator, Jen Citrolo, is spending her free time mentoring members of the Tappan Zee High School FIRST Robotics Competition team, SO BOTZ, in the area of marketing and communications.
Each week, Jen could be found mentoring students to effectively spread SO BOTZ news by helping craft social media posts, creating marketing campaigns to reach new potential sponsors and reaching out to community members to recruit more mentors. Jen has also helped arrange media coverage for the team to spread the word around the great work they have been involved with and to encourage more participation.
And that’s a wrap for our #SOCSDMentorMonday series! It’s been a blast highlighting community members who directly mentor SOCSD students on a sustained, voluntary basis through our schools and we hope to have new mentors to feature next spring. Thank you to all the outstanding mentors who give so generously of their time to help our students explore their interests and develop valuable career and life skills: You are an inspiration!
