SOCSD’s Office of Finance and Management Services conducted several professional development sessions for instructional support staff as part of yesterday’s Superintendent’s Conference Day program.
Supervisor of Purchasing Candace Perkins and Principal Account Clerk Danielle Durso led a workshop for district-wide clerical personnel on utilizing our financial management system as it pertains to purchasing materials and supplies, and leveraging reports to monitor budget expenses. The session included a review of the District’s purchasing procedures manual and discussion about common issues and best practices.
Meanwhile, Director of Facilities Jack Rallo, and Director of Safety, Security, and Compliance John Gulino hosted a session for Facilities Department staff members on safety protocols and skills-based, technical professional development. Facilities staff not only play a vital role in ensuring our schools are maintained in a safe and healthy manner, and the District is increasingly seeking opportunities to utilize in-house talent for smaller capital projects.
“Providing collaborative, critical training to ensure that effective practices are in place and cover topics relevant to staff in all functional areas is central to nurturing our professional culture, which values excellence and lifelong learning and translates into support for students in our classrooms,” said Executive Director of Finance and Management Services Alicia Koster.
