COVID-19 Planning and Preparation: Update (3/10/20)
March 10, 2020
Dear South Orangetown Families and Staff,
Last night, the District was notified that a member of a William O. Schaefer Elementary School staff member’s household is employed in one of the East Ramapo Central School District schools that was closed as a precautionary measure due to a confirmed case of COVID-19. Although neither the staff member nor the member of their household are experiencing symptoms, the staff member has consented to self-quarantine.
We have consulted the Rockland County Department of Health and were advised that the risk to our students and staff is minimal and that William O. Schaefer Elementary School should operate as usual.
In addition to the enhanced cleaning throughout our buildings, rooms in which our staff member was present, as well as bathrooms, offices and common areas have been deep cleaned and sanitized. Throughout the District, our nurses and building administrators continue to monitor student and staff attendance and health.
Once again, if you or a member of your household is asked to self-quarantine by an employer or organization with which you are associated, please notify the District immediately. Families should call their children’s School Nurse (contact phone information below); staff should contact Director of Staff Relations Dr. Joseph Lloyd at (845) 680-1030.
