Congratulations to Tappan Zee High School’s 2020 New York State School Music Association All-State musicians Jacob King (bass), Sarah Mesibov (soprano) and Mia Pakola (violin)!
The three seniors have been selected to participate in the 2020 All-State Music Festival. King will perform with the Mixed Chorus, Mesibov will perform with the Treble Chorus and Pakola will perform with the Symphony Orchestra.
Auditions for All-State ensembles are highly competitive, noted Tappan Zee High School Music Department Team Leader William Hughes. “Of the many thousands of students that audition across the entire state of New York, only 350 reach the All-State Festival,” he said. “The selections for this year’s All-State were based on NYSSMA solo ratings from Spring 2019. All three students performed Level VI works (the highest level of difficulty) and were ranked at the top of their vocal/instrumental category.”
All-State musicians typically travel to Rochester for a four-day festival in early December. However, this year’s festival will be entirely virtual. Students will prepare pieces with support from their school music teachers; Russell Wagoner, DMA will assist King and Mesibov and Jonathan Rossi will work with Pakola. Their performances will be recorded and submitted to NYSSMA for editing into a final virtual concert.
Once again, congratulations to Jacob, Sarah, Mia and all the South Orangetown Central School District music teachers who have encouraged and inspired them over the years!
