View the Return to School Requirements.
Dear South Orangetown Families,
All South Orangetown schools will operate on a fully-remote basis on Monday, November 30 and Tuesday, December 1. This temporary measure will enable us to safely assess the impact of Thanksgiving Recess in terms of COVID-19 transmission and quarantine requirements before resuming in-person hybrid learning.
Please note:
- Classes will be held virtually, as scheduled
- Free school breakfast and lunch will be available for weekly pickup on Monday, November 30, 9AM-12PM, from the SOMS Auditorium entrance
- Part-time CTEC students will be learning remotely both days. Transportation will be provided for students who attend out-of-district programs unless notified by their program administrator.
- High school sports practices will be temporarily suspended
As a reminder, students and staff must comply with all New York State COVID-19 guidelines, including the latest travel guidance issued on November 4 (Travel Advisory | Traveler Health Form). In addition, I strongly encourage each of you to review the Centers for Disease Control guidance for Holiday Celebrations and do all that you can to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
We realize that fully-remote learning places additional stress on many families at an already challenging time. By implementing this two-day transition period, we aim to keep our school community healthy and prevent additional, extended post-holiday closures.
We are hopeful that, with everyone’s continued diligence and support, our schools may safely resume in-person hybrid learning on Wednesday, December 2.
Sincerely,
Robert R. Pritchard, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
