Dear South Orangetown Families and Staff,
This morning, the District was notified of an additional positive case at South Orangetown Middle School. This individual developed symptoms on Friday, December 4 after having been in the building daily since Wednesday, December 2.
Contact tracing has begun and may continue through tomorrow. Those identified as contacts of the person who tested positive will be contacted by the District and/or a Contact Tracer from the Department of Health.
For Department of Health contact tracing calls:
- The caller ID may read “NYS Contact Tracing” or display a phone number with a 518 area code.
- Please promptly answer these calls.
- Your identity and the information you share will remain confidential.
- Please provide Contact Tracers with the information they need to protect our entire School District community.
Collectively, the two positive cases reported within the past 24 hours have resulted in mandated quarantines of roughly 25 staff members and 100 students. Due to this impact, SOMS will transition to fully-remote learning through Wednesday, December 23.
Thank you,
Robert R. Pritchard, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
