Actor Richard Koons spoke virtually with students in The Singing Actor course at Tappan Zee High School yesterday about his career in musical theatre. Koons discussed his first professional audition, the process which landed him a role in the national tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Love Never Dies and his experience teaching as a member of the voice faculty of Syracuse University’s musical theatre department.
The Zoom session was the latest installation of The Singing Actor’s Studio series produced by TZHS Choral Director Russell Wagoner, DMA, to provide students with real-world career exposure and guidance. “We’re currently studying and performing works from ‘Hello, Dolly,’ ‘A Chorus Line’ and ‘Beauty and the Beast,’” said Wagoner, noting that Koons had been cast in two of the productions. “It was another opportunity for students to connect with an industry professional and learn how to excel in the performing arts.”
