Tappan Zee High School senior Peter Wu has been selected as a 2021 National Merit Scholarship Finalist!
“We are thrilled to hear this announcement!” said Principal Rudy Arietta. “I am so happy to see that Peter is being recognized for all of his hard work in and out of the classroom.”
Of the 1.5 million juniors who entered the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2019 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, approximately 16,000 who score highest in their state are named Semifinalists at the start of senior year. To be considered for Finalist status, Semifinalists must submit an essay and scholarship application which includes information about their school and community activities, leadership abilities, employment and recognition earned. Semifinalists must demonstrate outstanding academic performance and be recommended by a school official. National Merit Scholarship winners will be selected from the pool of Finalists and announced starting in April 2021.
Peter was named a 2021 Semifinalist in the fall. Two additional seniors earned Letters of Commendation for scoring in the top three percent of 2019 PSAT/NMSQT test takers.
