Six South Orangetown preschoolers celebrated their graduation from the ParentChild+ program at the Blauvelt Sons of Italy today!
In caps and gowns, the children were called individually to receive their diplomas and flowers for their families. “As our youngest Dutchmen, we can’t wait to see you in kindergarten!” exclaimed Family Engagement Center Coordinator AJ Walker, who co-hosted the ceremony with Bilingual Early Learning Specialist Rosario Urena.
The proud grads are the first cohort of children to complete the research-based, early childhood literacy and parent support program launched by the District in partnership with Rockland 21C in 2019. The program is offered at no cost to families, whose children start the program at age 18-24 months, and features twice-weekly, 30-minute home visits with Urena over a two-year period.
“This is a celebration of two years of really strong parent partnerships and bridging our families into our school district. I am extremely proud of this program, of AJ, Rosario and all of our students and parents,” noted Executive Director for Pupil Personnel Services Karen Tesik, Ed.D. Congratulations, to our ParentChild+ graduating families!
