This message was sent via SchoolMessenger to parents of TZHS seniors and SOMS eighth-graders on May 13, 2021
Last Friday, we shared information regarding the TZHS Class of 2021 graduation and SOMS eighth-grade moving up ceremonies.
As explained in that message, due to the size of the SOMS and TZHS ceremonies, specific COVID-19 prevention protocols must be followed for these events. Most notably, attendees will be required to provide documentation of:
- A negative diagnostic test result for COVID-19 using an FDA or DOH authorized PCR or NAAT performed within 72 hours of the event; OR
- Proof of completed COVID-19 vaccination series at least 14 days prior to the ceremony date; OR
- Proof of a lab-confirmed case of COVID-19 and recovery within the last 3 months of the ceremony
For those intending to seek vaccination: Please be aware that all doses must be completed at least 14 days prior to the ceremony you wish to attend: by Sunday, June 6 for SOMS and by Wednesday, June 9 for TZHS.
For those opting to obtain authorized PCR or NAAT testing within 72 hours of the ceremony they wish to attend: Please keep in mind that a positive test result for anyone within the household may lead to the quarantine of the student who is graduating/moving up. Students who are quarantined are not permitted to attend their graduation/moving up ceremony.
TZHS seniors participating in graduation and SOMS eighth-graders participating in moving up are not required to provide documentation of COVID-19 testing, vaccination or recovery. However, if these students are subject to quarantine and their ceremonies fall within their quarantine period, they will not be allowed to participate.
Further and more detailed information regarding event logistics will be shared by the schools in the weeks leading up to these ceremonies. However, given the time constraints associated with vaccination, we wanted to ensure that families have time to prepare to meet the requirements.
Sincerely,
Robert R. Pritchard, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
