South Orangetown Central School District

Sent via SchoolMessenger on June 7, 2021.

Due to anticipated building conditions resulting from forecasted high temperatures, all schools will dismiss early tomorrow, June 8 and on Wednesday, June 9. Dismissal times are as follows:

  • 11:30AM: South Orangetown Middle School and Tappan Zee High School
  • 12:30PM: William O. Schaefer Elementary School and Cottage Lane Elementary School

Breakfast, but not lunch, will be served both days. After school/evening activities will proceed as scheduled.

In addition, during a press conference this morning, Governor Andrew Cuomo stated that, based on conversations with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, New York State will allow school districts to make outdoor masking optional. Therefore, in accordance with this update to State COVID-19 guidelines as presented by the Governor, the District will amend its reopening plan with the following modification to masking rules:

  • Students and staff are not required to wear masks outdoors.

In anticipation of this modification to the Governor’s Executive Order, this change will go into effect district-wide starting tomorrow, June 8.

Please note that Governor’s Executive Order will not change requirements for masking indoors and on buses. All other precautions that the District has implemented to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, including physical distancing, also remain in place.
