Hello South Orangetown Middle School Incoming Seventh and Eighth Grade Parents/Guardians and Students,

As you enter into Grades 7 and 8 at South Orangetown Middle School for the 2021-22 school year, you will have numerous opportunities to participate in activities for the school; one of those opportunities is interscholastic modified athletics. Our District offers many of these sports for our seventh- and eighth-graders and they are a great way for you to become more involved at SOMS.

Here is the process of registering for interscholastic sports at SOMS.

  • Online registration will open 30 days (in accordance with NYS law) prior to the start of the season. Fall modified sports registration will open August 9, 2021 via this link: https://socsd.powermediallc.org/
  • Upon your initial visit to the website, you must create a profile and enter medical information.
  • After the profile is created, visits to the site will have you sign in and fill out a “packet” for each season. One family profile can have up to 4 children. Student athletes must have a valid physical within the last year to be approved to participate. Parents can upload a physical to their profile. If needed, the district can provide a physical if necessary through the school medical director. However, we encourage parents to obtain a physical from their child’s health care provider.

Practices and contests are held Monday through Friday during the season. The following are the start dates for each season:

Fall: September 9, 2021
Modified sports offerings: Football, Boys Soccer, Girls Soccer, Girls Tennis, Boys Cross Country, Girls Cross Country, Girls Swimming and Volleyball

Winter: November 29, 2021
Modified sports offerings: Bowling, Boys Basketball, Boys Swimming, Fencing, Girls Basketball, Ice Hockey and Wrestling

Spring: March 28, 2022

If you have any questions regarding middle school sports, please contact the Athletic Department via email (wpilla@socsd.org) or phone (845-680-1641).
