South Orangetown Central School District

Last Thursday, 20 juniors and seniors were inducted into Tappan Zee High School’s English Honor Society! They are: Liyana Astafa, Cate Doyle, Olivia Dinger, Michaela Duggan, Lily Feinmesser, Kate Haughey, Sophia Hovsepian, Meline Kalishian, Mikaela Kraus, Hunter Lipari, Ailish MacDonnell, Alivia Martinez, Cole Massaro, Jack McHugh, Anna Pastore, Livia Regina, Autumn Scorcia, Kathryn Staker, Oliana Terleph and Matthew Tobin.

Members of the TZHS EHS have exhibited high standards of excellence in their freshman and sophomore English classes, published a piece of writing at the school, state or national level, and received the recommendation of at least one English teacher.

During the induction ceremony, students were welcomed by the four senior EHS officers. Officers each spoke about a particularly meaningful book that impacted their lives, taught them a lesson or helped them reconnect with their roots. At the conclusion of the ceremony, EHS advisor Sarah McMane invited all in attendance to contribute the title of a book to a display of favorite books — building a wall of ‘bibliotherapy’ to share with the TZHS community.

Founded in 2003, the TZHS EHS confers distinction for high achievement in English language and literature. The society aims to serve society by fostering literacy through providing cultural stimulation in the forms of lectures, debates and performances.

Congratulations, 2021 EHS inductees!
