South Orangetown Central School District

This morning, South Orangetown Middle School National Junior Honor Society officers Maksim G., Nicholas M., Jaywon C., Kayleen Y., and Esther H. presented members of the Rockland County Marine Corps League with collected items from their Holiday Packages for the Troops Drive. The items will be donated to active-duty service members and veterans for the holidays.

Meeting with Chip Hayes, the Commander of the Bob Hope Division, which coordinates the Christmas Packages for the Troops program, and Rockland County Veterans Office Director Susan Braham, the NJHS officers were joined by Superintendent of Schools Robert Pritchard, Ed.D., Principal Chad Corey, Ed.D., and NJHS co-advisor Kerry Beckmann.

“Each of you demonstrates leadership, service, character and citizenship through your own contributions and community involvement — characteristics and qualities that NJHS recognizes and encourages,” said Corey.

“These needed items you’ve collected and provided for donation will be much appreciated,” added Braham. “On behalf of the troops and veterans who will be receiving these items, we thank you sincerely.”

Inspired by Dr. Pritchard’s school-wide Veterans Day assembly on November 4, NJHS members have been collecting needed items — ranging from batteries, to pens, to puzzle books, to candy — over the past two weeks. After pickup, the items will then be packaged and gifted to deployed troops and disabled, hospitalized veterans.
