South Orangetown Central School District

Sent via SchoolMessenger on March 2, 2022

In June 2020, and again in October 2020, the New York State Education Department released a Digital Equity Survey that asked schools to provide data on computing devices and broadband access in students’ and teachers’ locations of residence.

NYSED is asking public schools to conduct its Digital Equity Survey annually. The purpose of this survey is to provide NYSED and school districts with an up-to-date, accurate and complete picture of the state of digital equity–the technological capacity to fully participate in one’s education–for each individual student.

All SOCSD families are encouraged to participate via the PowerSchool Portal starting today, March 2. The survey will take 5-10 minutes and is available in both English and Spanish. Instructions on how to access the survey are posted here: English | Spanish.

This data will be used by NYSED to inform fiscal planning, budgeting and policy by helping to identify specific needs and targeting resources and funding opportunities. The District’s administrative team will also have access to the data collected.

Please contact Director of Technology George Brady (gbrady@socsd.org) with any questions regarding the Digital Equity Survey or for assistance with accessing it via the PowerSchool Portal.

If your child does not have access to a computing device or broadband at home to complete assignments, please contact your child’s school principal to request support.

Thank you in advance for your participation.
